Wounded Earth, 2025

I hung Wounded Earth in the sculpture court off a found frayed rope, and left it to inevitably loose strength and break. This places the vulnerable ceramic at risk, just as the earth is vulnerable to exploitation.
Documenting the work in a white gallery space amplified its impact, contrasting the rawness of the piece against the cleanliness of the setting.
Alternatively, it was installed on an old steel cabinet with removed contents, adding an ambiguity of the purpose whilst also reinforcing themes of damage, resilience, and transformation.
I experimented with presenting the ceramic hanging off a tree outside of ECA.
I felt the presentation altered the piece, where the destructive object blended into the background becoming an obscure subtle danger.
